Our firm’s first client was Deacon Dave Mayes who, while hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, prayerfully discerned a call to explore turning his 70-acre homestead and cattle ranch into a day retreat center. From conceptual design to exploratory research to moving forward with building and construction, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the journey of working through the development! ~ Justin

In 2020, Deacon Dave Mayes hired Common Home Planning & Design to explore turning a 70-acre homestead and ranch into a day-retreat center. The first part of the project was to conduct a market analysis and develop a conceptual plan that fit the client’s budget. We then discussed this concept with City and County officials and adjusted the plans accordingly. Then Alan King Landscape Architects took our work to the next level with more detailed design plans. We then took those plans, along with plans for other element such as the pavilion and boating dock and produced detailed design renderings. These renderings helped us work through the design details as well as provided a good visual to talk to contractors about.
We are currently in the project implementation stage, working with a variety of trades and contractors to make this vision a reality. Our goal is a grand opening of the retreat center in the Fall of 2021.
